European Parliament president Antonio Tajani met the speaker of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi in Washington yesterday with both sides pledging to build relations between the two institutions.
Pelosi spoke of a productive meeting with the European Parliament Transatlantic [Legislators’] Dialogue and she looked forward to continuing their conversation.

“Whether it’s about trade and issues about our mutual economic security, whether it’s about human rights and anti-Semitism, democracy and protecting the integrity of our elections, whether it’s about issues that talk about – that look to the Europeans for their leadership on addressing the climate crisis, which they’re ahead of us on and we learn a lot from you on that – and about security, in terms of strengthening our NATO relationship,” she said.
“So it’s about impressing upon each other, certainly from our standpoint, bipartisan support for the transatlantic relationship as being a very strong priority to our economic, our national, our cultural security,” she said.
Tajani said his trip was about strengthening relations noting that everyone needed to work together. He spoke about the need to defend democracy in Venezuela, to combat terrorism and anti-semitism and the defence of human rights everywhere in the world. He spoke also about climate change and migration as well as fair trade rules.
