Climate change will mean more heat extremes and less river flows in the Mediterranean, according to an EU study.

The findings, published in the form of an Infographic on the European Parliament’s webpage notes that climate change is already having wide-ranging consequences for human health, the environment and economies across Europe.

The data comes from a report by the European Environment Agency. All regions are affected, but not in the same way. The effects have been mostly negative, although in some cases there were also some benefits, such as a lower demand for heating and better conditions for agriculture in northern Europe.

The Infographic focus on the Arctic region, the Boreal region, the mountain areas, the Atlantic region, the Continental region, the Mediterranean region and coastal regions and seas.

On the Mediterranean, the study notes that climate change also means higher risk of droughts and higher risk of biodiversity loss. Other concerns are higher risks of forest fires, more competition for water, lower crop yields, more energy needed for cooling, less tourism in summer and possibly more in other seasons as well as more people dying because of the heat wave.
