May 9 is Europe Day and is celebrated every year throughout the EU. It marks the historic speech made by the then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman on the need for a new form of political cooperation in Europe to avert future wars on the continent and is considered the launching pad of the European Union.

As such it offers an opportunity to celebrate the values and ideas on which the EU is based and which unite EU citizens.
