Italy’s Lega and the French National Rally are the leading parties in a new far-right group in the European Parliament.

The newly formed Identity and Democracy (ID) group has 73 members in the 751-seat assembly ahead of its first session in July. 

In total, 10% of MEPs elected in the May elections represent far-right parties.

ID participating parties:

  • Italy’s Lega (League) – 28 MEPs
  • France’s Rassemblement National (National Rally) – 22 MEPs
  • Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) – 11 MEPs
  • Austria’s FPÖ (Freedom Party) – 3 MEPs
  • Belgium’s Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) – 3 MEPs
  • Finland’s PS (True Finns) – 2 MEPs
  • The Czech Republic’s Freedom and Direct Democracy – 2 MEPs
  • Denmark’s People’s Party – 1 MEP
  • Estonia’s Conservative People’s Party – 1 MEP

The 29 MEPs of the UK Brexit Party and Spain’s new Vox party have not signed up to join the ID group.

Vox joined the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR), while Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party has not yet made an alliance.
